Pregnancy Nutrition And Daily Supplements Of Multivitamins
Pregnancy nutrition research shows that women who were taking daily multi Vitamin protein shakes in and around the time of conception gave birth to babies who weighed on average half a kilo more than babies from women not taking the supplements, report Heather Burris from Harvard University and Allen Mitchell and Martha Werler from Boston University in the Annals of Epidemiology.

Dietary supplements of multivitamins during pregnancy may improve the growth of the baby in the womb, says a study with African American women.
“African American women in the United States deliver preterm and low birth weight infants two to three times more frequently than their white counterparts,” explained the Boston-based researchers.
Low birth weight has been linked to higher risks of negative health outcomes, including neonatal and infant mortality, poor growth and cognitive development, and higher risks of chronic diseases later in life, like diabetes and heart disease
“If our findings were confirmed and subsequently shown to be causal, then increasing peri-conceptional multivitamin use among African American women in the United States could help to eliminate longstanding disparities in birth weight, gestational age, and foetal growth,” they added
Study details Burris and her co-workers analysed data from 2,331 non-Hispanic white and 133 non-Hispanic black mothers and their infants participating in the Slone Epidemiology Center Birth Defects Study.
While no link was association between multivitamin use in white women and the birth weight or gestational age of their infants, a significant increase in birth weight was observed in babies from African American women.
Indeed, Pregnancy nutrition monitoring and multivitamin use in African Amercian women was associated with an increase in birth weight of their infants of about 540 grams. Furthermore, there was a trend toward increased gestation periods in these women, added the researchers
Being a mother was something that Heather D, a seasoned labor and delivery nurse from Springfield, Missouri, wanted for as long as she could remember.
After ten years of infertility, Heather now stays at home with her six-month-old baby boy Declan, and she's happy to share the amazing way these amazing products made her dreams of motherhood come true. “Not being able to get pregnant for so long was a nightmare, especially since I worked around new mothers and babies,” she recalls.
Heather suffered from menstruation cycle problems. Intrigued by the health results she experienced from taking the products, she increased the daily amount of the shakes. After six weeks, she had her first natural cycle in ten years.
She and her husband, Jason, were delighted to discover she was pregnant almost right away, but their son entered the world three months premature and weighed just under two pounds.
Despite discouraging odds for survival, tiny Declan grew stronger. Heather credits the nutrition-enriched breast milk that nourished her son. Declan is home now and weighs a whopping 14 pounds.
